Remodeling Your Home in the Winter
Remodeling Your Home in the Winter
Winter isn’t the first season that comes to mind when one thinks “remodeling” or “home renovation”, especially in Illinois. However, at Newline Design Center we think winter is an excellent time to tackle that home remodeling project you have been neglecting all year long. Here are some reasons why winter is the optimal time to complete a home renovation, and some tips for getting it done efficiently!

It’s Less Expensive
Typically, home renovations are actually less expensive in the winter. This is because many manufacturers inflate prices during the warmer months when more people are in demand of their goods. The winter is the perfect time to ensure you are getting the lowest prices out there.
Everyone is Available
From finding a contractor to complete your project to getting that government-issued permit, the wintertime is SO much more efficient. During the winter, most summer-centric businesses slow down. For example, contractors will be able to work around your schedule (rather than you working around their schedule). This is great for busy families who are trying to balance work, school, and vacation. Things are usually less busy for homeowners in the winter, so you will be able to accommodate the renovation with less stress. Lastly, less people are renovating during the winter, so the wait time for your permit will take much less time.
Excellent Conditions for Indoor Projects
While we wouldn’t recommend painting the outside of your home during the winter, there are still tons of great renovations you can make during the winter. In fact, some of these renovations are preferably done during the winter. For example, a basement addition is a great winter project. First, you won’t have to expose your home to the chilly winter air like you would with a room addition, so everyone in the house can stay comfortable. Also, the air in the winter is considerably less humid, meaning there will be a much lower risk for mold development on exposed surfaces. This factor also comes into play when installing hardwood floors, as water damage due to humidity is common during the warm months.
